Hey Checkyourlogs Fans,

In today’s post, we are going to look at installing Windows Admin Center into my brand new Windows Server 2019 LTSC lab. I have done this a few times and I wanted to show how it can be literally setup in less than a few minutes.

To start let’s grab the binaries for Windows Admin Center from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewserver?wa=wsignin1.0

Because I am a member of the amazing Windows Insiders program let’s grab the latest release available for the lab.

To install simply double-click on the WindowsAdminCenterPreview1806.msi.

On the Windows Admin Center Setup Welcome page, accept the License Agreement and click next

On the Use Microsoft Update to help keep your computer secure and up-to-date select use Microsoft Update when I check for updates (recommended) and click Next.

On the Configure Gateway Endpoint select both Allow Windows Admin Center to modify this machine’s trusted hosts settings and Create a desktop shortcut to launch Windows Admin Center and click Next.

On the Configure Gateway Endpoint page leave the defaults and click Install.

Note: The installation takes approximately 1-2 minutes to complete.

Once completed launch Windows Admin Center from your Desktop

I used Chrome to launch Windows Admin Center and once in you will see a welcome screen like this.

We can check out Windows Admin Center by looking at this server.

We can see all the cool options that can be configured in this HTML 5 interface.

Let’s have a look at our storage on this server as in the last blog post we enabled Deduplication on ReFS.

When I clicked on my Data (E: ) volume I can immediately see an issue. I forgot to format the ReFS volume with 64 KB block size it is left at the default of 4 KB.

Windows Admin Center has already helped me fix an issue with my installation.

I hope you enjoyed this post,

Thanks,

Dave
