We built a new Windows Server 2016 S2D Cluster last week and moved all VMs from Windows 2012 R2 Cluster to new Windows 2016 S2D Cluster and Standalone Windows 2016 Hyper-V Server, everything looks awesome, they got better performance.
But when we tried to use Veeam backup and replication 9.5 with Update 3 to Back and replica VMs, all VMs are happy except two Windows Server 2012 R2 Active Directory Servers, they showed error message “Failed to create VM recovery checkpoint (mode: Veeam application-aware processing) Details: Job failed (”). Error code: ‘32768’. Failed to create VM recovery snapshot, VM ID ‘d2936ee7-3444-419e-82d9-01d45e5370f8’.Retrying snapshot creation attempt (Failed to create production checkpoint.)Task has been rescheduled”.

As you know, Veeam released the service pack 3 on December 2017, it’s not fix bugs only, it also includes a lot of new features –
Built-in agent management,
Insider protection for Veeam Cloud Connect,
Data location tagging…

The steps are straightforward, but you still need to be careful about two things, the first one is “If you use Veeam ONE to monitor Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam Cloud Connect, be sure to install Update 3 for Veeam ONE 9.5 first” and the second is “If you are a tenant of a cloud provider, please contact your provider before upgrading to ensure the provider has applied Update 3 on their end”.

My customer asked me to upgrade their Windows 2003 web server last week, as we know, Windows Server 2003 extended support ended on July 14,2015, Microsoft will no longer issue security updates for any version of Windows Server 2003. Unfortunately, I noticed the Web server is Windows 2003 x86 server, there is no way to in-place upgrade it to x64, the only way is upgrade it to Windows Server 2008 x86, it will give a couple years to prepare web server migration plan at least. A pretty simple request came across my desk today. I was requested to send a report of users that were created after a specific date. Do you remember the Windows Server 2003 and prior?
